Biography
Rob Brydon is a Welsh actor, comedian, impressionist, and presenter, known for his warm comic style, rich voice, and quick wit. He was born Robert Brydon Jones on May 3, 1965, in Baglan, Glamorgan, Wales. He studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama but left before graduating to pursue a career in broadcasting.
Brydon first gained attention as a voice-over artist and radio presenter, particularly on BBC Radio Wales. His early work in television included voice work for animated series and presenting game shows, but his breakthrough came in 2000 with the acclaimed BBC comedy Human Remains, co-created and co-written with Julia Davis. This was followed by Marion and Geoff (2000–2003), in which Brydon played a hapless, deluded taxi driver in a series of poignant comic monologues.
He became a household name with his role as Uncle Bryn in the hit BBC sitcom Gavin & Stacey (2007–2010, with later specials), and further cemented his reputation through The Trip series (2010–2020), a semi-improvised travelogue with Steve Coogan. Their duelling celebrity impressions—particularly of Michael Caine—became iconic.
Brydon is also a popular panel show host and guest, notably presenting Would I Lie to You? since 2009. His charming, self-deprecating humour has made him a favourite on British television, and he’s known for his masterful impressions, musical comedy, and improvisation.
In addition to comedy, Brydon has acted in a range of drama and film roles, including The Huntsman: Winter’s War and Cinderella. He has also performed live on stage, hosted chat shows, and voiced characters in animated films.
Rob Brydon remains one of the UK’s most beloved entertainers, admired for his versatility, affable persona, and skill in blending humour with heart.
