Biography

Piers Morgan is a British journalist, television presenter, and broadcaster known for his outspoken views, confrontational style, and long career in media. He was born Piers Stefan O'Meara on March 30, 1965, in Surrey, England. After studying journalism at Harlow College, he began his career as a reporter for local newspapers before being recruited by The Sun as a showbiz columnist in the late 1980s.

Morgan rose to prominence in 1994 when, at just 29 years old, he was appointed editor of the News of the World by Rupert Murdoch—making him the youngest editor of a national UK newspaper in more than 50 years. A year later, he became editor of the Daily Mirror, a position he held until 2004, when he was dismissed over the publication of controversial, later-discredited photographs of British soldiers.

After leaving print journalism, Morgan transitioned to television. He found success in the U.S. as a judge on America’s Got Talent and later won The Celebrity Apprentice in 2008. In 2011, he replaced Larry King on CNN with Piers Morgan Live, which ran until 2014.

Back in the UK, Morgan co-hosted ITV’s Good Morning Britain from 2015 to 2021, where he became a polarizing figure, known for fiery debates and challenging interviews. His on-air criticism of Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey led to his high-profile departure from the show after refusing to apologize.

Morgan is currently the host of Piers Morgan Uncensored, a global talk show on TalkTV and other platforms. He continues to generate headlines and public debate through his columns, interviews, and social media presence.

Love him or loathe him, Piers Morgan has become one of the most recognizable and provocative voices in British media over the past three decades.
