Paul Gambaccini is a British-American broadcaster, author, and music historian, widely respected for his deep knowledge of popular music and a career in radio and television spanning over five decades. Born on April 2, 1949, in The Bronx, New York City, he was raised in a culturally rich environment and developed a passion for music early on. He studied history at Dartmouth College and later became a Rhodes Scholar at University College, Oxford.

Gambaccini began his UK broadcasting career at BBC Radio 1 in 1973, where he quickly became known as “The Professor of Pop” for his encyclopedic music knowledge and articulate, engaging style. He presented shows like Rockfile, The Paul Gambaccini Show, and the long-running America’s Greatest Hits, building a loyal audience with his warm demeanor and insightful commentary.
