Biography
Noel Gallagher, born May 29, 1967, in Manchester, England, is a renowned British musician, songwriter, and guitarist, best known as the principal songwriter and lead guitarist of the iconic rock band Oasis. Raised in a working-class Irish Catholic family, Gallagher endured a troubled childhood marked by poverty and an abusive father. Music became his escape, and he began writing songs while working as a roadie for the Inspiral Carpets in the late 1980s.
In 1991, he joined his younger brother Liam Gallagher’s band, which soon became Oasis. Noel quickly took creative control, writing most of the group’s material, including global hits like "Wonderwall," "Don’t Look Back in Anger," and "Live Forever." The band’s 1994 debut album Definitely Maybe became the fastest-selling debut in UK history at the time, launching them to international stardom. The follow-up, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? (1995), cemented their status as leaders of the Britpop movement.
Despite massive success, the Gallagher brothers’ volatile relationship led to frequent conflicts. Noel eventually left the band in 2009, citing irreconcilable differences. He went on to form Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, releasing a series of critically acclaimed albums that showcased his evolving sound and artistic maturity.
Gallagher is widely regarded as one of Britain’s greatest songwriters, known for his melodic instincts, lyrical wit, and influences ranging from The Beatles to The Smiths. Though often blunt and outspoken in interviews, he remains a respected figure in rock music.
Beyond his career, Gallagher is known for his sharp humor, outspoken opinions, and enduring influence on British pop culture. His music continues to resonate across generations, securing his legacy as a defining voice of modern British rock.
