Biography

Matt Lucas, born Matthew Richard Lucas on March 5, 1974, in Paddington, London, is a British comedian, actor, writer, and television presenter best known for his work on the groundbreaking sketch comedy series Little Britain. Lucas has had a varied career that spans comedy, theatre, television, and film.

Lucas lost his hair at the age of six due to alopecia, something he has spoken about openly, and which shaped aspects of his distinctive public image. He attended the University of Bristol and later joined the National Youth Theatre, where he met fellow comedian David Walliams. Their creative partnership would go on to produce Little Britain (2003–2007), a satirical and often provocative sketch show that became a cultural phenomenon in the UK and abroad.

Before Little Britain, Lucas gained attention playing George Dawes, a giant baby who kept score on the comedy panel show Shooting Stars. His ability to transform into absurd and unforgettable characters became one of his trademarks.

Beyond sketch comedy, Lucas has appeared in numerous television and film roles, including Alice in Wonderland (2010), Bridesmaids (2011), and the TV series Doctor Who, where he played Nardole, a companion to the Twelfth Doctor. He also co-hosted The Great British Bake Off from 2020 to 2022, bringing his warm humour and charm to a new audience.

Lucas is also known for his musical theatre appearances and has written an autobiography titled Little Me. Openly gay, he is an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and mental health awareness.

With his unique blend of wit, vulnerability, and versatility, Matt Lucas has become one of Britain's most beloved comic talents, consistently reinventing himself while remaining true to his comedic roots.
