Biography

Florence Rose Pugh (born January 3, 1996, in Oxford, England) is a celebrated English actress known for her emotionally rich and versatile performances in film and television. Raised in a creative household, her father, Clinton Pugh, is a restaurateur, and her mother, Deborah Mackin, was a dancer and fitness instructor. She grew up with three siblings, including actor and musician Toby Sebastian.

Pugh made her film debut in 2014 at age 17 in The Falling, where her performance drew early praise. Her breakout came in 2016 with Lady Macbeth, a dark period drama that earned her a British Independent Film Award for Best Actress.

In 2019, Pugh had a landmark year, starring in three critically acclaimed films: the wrestling biopic Fighting with My Family, Ari Aster’s unsettling horror film Midsommar, and Greta Gerwig’s Little Women, in which she played Amy March. The latter earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Pugh entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Yelena Belova in Black Widow (2021), later reprising the role in the Hawkeye series and the upcoming Thunderbolts (2025). She continued to take on challenging roles in films like Don’t Worry Darling (2022), The Wonder (2022), A Good Person (2023), Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer (2023), and Dune: Part Two (2024).

In 2024, she starred alongside Andrew Garfield in the romantic drama We Live in Time, earning praise for her emotional performance.

Outside acting, Pugh is known for her advocacy of body positivity and for speaking publicly about her health challenges, including endometriosis and PCOS. She’s also become a fashion icon and producer, carving out a unique space in both indie and blockbuster cinema.
