Biography
Dua Lipa is a British-Albanian singer, songwriter, and model known for her distinctive voice, infectious pop sound, and empowering lyrics. Born on August 22, 1995, in London, England, she is the daughter of Kosovo Albanian parents who fled conflict in the Balkans. Her father, Dukagjin Lipa, a former rock musician, played a key role in shaping her musical interests.
Lipa began posting song covers on YouTube at age 14, influenced by artists like P!nk, Nelly Furtado, and Christina Aguilera. After working as a model and pursuing music training, she signed with Warner Bros. Records in 2015. Her self-titled debut album, Dua Lipa (2017), produced hits like “Be the One,” “IDGAF,” and the global smash “New Rules,” which became an anthem of female empowerment and propelled her to international stardom.
Her sophomore album, Future Nostalgia (2020), marked a shift toward disco and funk influences and received widespread critical acclaim. It included chart-topping singles such as “Don’t Start Now,” “Levitating,” and “Physical.” The album won Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards, solidifying her status as a pop powerhouse.
Beyond music, Lipa is a fashion icon and activist. She has worked with major brands like Versace and Yves Saint Laurent, while also using her platform to advocate for women’s rights, LGBTQ+ equality, and refugee support. In 2022, she launched Service95, a global newsletter and platform for cultural and political storytelling.
Known for blending retro aesthetics with modern beats, Dua Lipa continues to redefine pop music with each release. Her charisma, work ethic, and boundary-pushing style have made her one of the most influential artists of her generation. As of 2025, she remains at the forefront of global pop culture.
