Alexander David Turner (born 6 January 1986) is an English singer and musician. Since 2002 he has been the main songwriter and lead singer of the rock band Arctic Monkeys, with whom he has released seven albums. He has also recorded with his side project as the Last Shadow Puppets with Miles Kane.
After receiving musical instruments for Christmas, Turner and three friends formed Arctic Monkeys in their native Sheffield in 2002. Their debut studio album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, broke records upon it's release in 2006 with the band enjoying continued success since.
Turner was often reserved in early interviews but has been more forthcoming in recent years. A fan of Hip-Hop and Rap while at school, Turner grew up listening to icons such as Dr Dre as well as British acts of the time such as Roots Manuva. He is a fan of the films of Jean-Pierre Melville.
